Rustem has been with KPMG for 20+ years and served as a tax partner in Kazakhstan since 2008. He works with a wide range of domestic and foreign clients and his areas of specialization include international taxation, tax planning and cross-border inbound investment and exit strategies.
Rustem’s flagship clients include some of international petroleum majors with exploration and upstream assets in Kazakhstan, as well as a number of Kazakh and Chinese state-owned energy corporations. He advises extensively on tax litigation matters, has represented taxpayers in Kazakh courts and provided independent expert testimonies in court hearings.
Rustem has been a frequent speaker at seminars and conferences on taxation issues. He has also taught taxation at Kazakhstan universities.
