UzumFermr

Total area – 32 hectares. 21 hectares are planted near the winery in the Kibray district of the Tashkent region, where the climate is dry and warm, and the soils are slightly alkaline and calcareous. Another 11 hectares are located at the foot of the mountains in Parkent, where the climate is cooler and the soils are more fertile. The grape variety composition is diverse: international classics (Cabernet Sauvignon, Riesling, Pinot Noir, etc.) are grown alongside Saperavi and lesser-known varieties in Russia, such as Bayan Shirey – a Central Asian folk selection variety, also used in sparkling wine production. There is also a demonstration collection of table and wine grape varieties, totaling more than 120 different cultivars.

Team
The CEO and founder of the family winery Uzumfermer is Rashid Akhunov, an experienced entrepreneur from Tashkent. Invited specialists from New Zealand and Moldova oversee viticulture and winemaking. All family members are involved in the work.

Winery
The family-owned farm winery is located in the Kibray district of the Tashkent region, in the village of Kattasuv. It is equipped with modern Italian equipment, including a grape reception and processing line and Toscana Inox tanks. Aging is carried out in barriques made from French, American, and Slavonian oak. Each season, over 200 tons of grapes are processed, resulting in the production of around 140,000 bottles per year. The product range includes 11 different labels.

Prospects
The project’s story began in 2008 with just 1 hectare of land, when the family decided to move out of the city. Soon after, the idea emerged to develop the farm as a tourist destination. In 2019, the winemaking direction was launched. As a result, Uzbekistan’s first family-owned wine tourism complex was created: its own vineyards, a varietal collection and experiments with agricultural techniques, a modern winery, a hotel and restaurant, and a wide range of guest activities.

The wines are consistently good and quite respectable for a family-run winery. The technological approach is clearly well thought out. A great introduction to their wines would be through two aged red wines, which were selected for publication in the pages of the wine guide. These wines embody the energy of the Uzbek sun and the unique character imparted by grapes grown on ungrafted vines.
